Environmental Management System (EMS)

EMS is part of an organization’s management system used to develop and implement its environmental policy and manage its environmental aspects. It is a set of procedures and methods for aligning corporate strategies, policies and operations with principles that protect ecosystems. 

Scope and objectives of EMS

1. Understand environmental aspects and improve management of environmental impacts. 
2. Set targets to reduce energy use, water use and waste. 
3. Define key responsibilities for achieving targets
4. Regularly assess progress towards achieving set objectives.
5. Assist with environmental reporting
6. Achieve cost savings
7. Show leadership nationally or internationally
8. Obtain competitive advantage
9. May be required by clients, customers or regulators
10. Build goodwill from customers, employers and stakeholders.
